Because Sublimation is only done successfully on polyester articles and in particular-garments, it won’t fade, won’t bleed and the garments won’t shrink.
The basic sublimation process uses special heat sensitive dyes to print graphics, photos and text onto special transfer paper which is then placed on white or light coloured polyester articles. (Items such as cups have a transparent polyester coating.)
When the heating cycle is completed, the ink image on the paper has been turned to gas and transferred to the polyester.

The first thing to know is that Sublimation can only successfully be applied to 100% Polyester because the same high temperature opens the pores of the polymer and allows the gas to enter thereby trapping the colour in the polymer when the heat is reduced.
After the Graphics process, the image has be printed on special Sublimation Paper.
What you see on your computer screen can be replicated on to the Sublimation papers that can only be applied to any 100% polyester articles including textiles, rubber backed bar runners, stubbie coolers and banners. These are then placed into a heat press to start the process.
When the temperature drops, the pores close and the gas reverts to a solid state essentially trapping the colours and images.
The main difference between sublimation and other types of printing has to do with heat.
The vaporised colours permeate the surface of the paper, creating a gentle gradation at the edges of each pixel, instead of the conspicuous border between dye and paper produced by inkjets.
And because the colour infuses the paper, it is also less vulnerable to fading and distortion over time.
All Sublimation featuring White in the Design is done on White Fabric because there is no White Dye Sub Ink, although a say, sky blue garment can have a dark print if there is no white in the design.
Sublimation refers to solid dye particles that are changed into gas using heat and pressure, which then bond with any polymers present and change back into a solid.
The graphic image has now become a part of the polymer and the design is impregnated into the fabric.
